NOTICES – 22nd January 201

We extend our love and condolences to Emilio and Jane Dauden whose beloved son Sebastian died on 11th January. We also remember Sabbie’s sister Katie. Sabbie’s funeral service will be held tomorrow at 12 noon in St Alban’s followed by a committal at Rotherham Crematorium.

Revd John Wraw, former rector of St Alban’s, will be consecrated Bishop of Bradwell (Chelmsford) at St Paul’s Cathedral this Thursday 25th January. Please pray for John and if you would like to contribute to our gift to him please do so via the plate at the back. Gift Aid. Thank you.

The Shiloh Homelessness Project has written to thank us for the gift of £940 which was raised at the Christmas Fair (£630), the Wickersley School Carol Service and Carols in the Courtyard. Thank you.

Worship Services and Bible Studies

Cornerstone meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm in church. It is a place where we learn to pray.  Why not give it a try this Tuesday?

A Family Service is held at 10.30am on the second Sunday of each month.

Evensong from the Book of Common Prayer is sung on the first Sunday of each month at 6.00pm.

Christianity Explored is a seven-week course that aims to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting and is open to all – whether you’d call yourself a ‘beginner’ with very little knowledge of Christianity or whether you’re a believer who’d like to brush up on the basics. Sessions will run regularly on Wednesdays at 10.00 am and 7.00 pm in the rectory, beginning 8th February. Messy Church is for families who want to belong to their local church and bring up their children as Christians. Its programme of crafts, worship and a ‘bring-and-share’ meal compliments traditional Sunday morning church services. Messy Church meets  every third Saturday of the month at  4.00pm in the Barn.

Holy Communion (BCP) is celebrated every Thursday at 10.00am and is followed by refreshments.  A warm welcome awaits you.

 Outings

The Sound of Music at the Lyceum Theatre, on Wednesday 14th March at 7.15 pm. All St. Alban’s forty tickets have now been taken, but if you wish to go on the reserves list for late cancellations, the list is still at the back of church.  Thank you to all Outing Club members who have already paid.  Liz Thornton-Smith would be grateful to receive the remaining monies for tickets and coach places as soon as possible.

Sarah and Allan Foxton invite you to a two-course charity dinner and evening of entertainment at the Consort Hotel, Thurcroft on Friday 3rd February at 7.00 pm in aid of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital.  Entertainment is by courtesy of the Spotlight Theatre Group and professional vocal trio ‘ The Dreams’.  Tickets are £22.50 and are available from Sue Foxton on 01709 545777.

Forthcoming Events

Messengers, Watchmen & Stewards is the title of a conference to be held at City Evangelical Church, Leeds on Tuesday 24th January, 10.00am – 4.30pm. The speaker will be Peter Jensen, Archbishop of Sydney. The conference will explore what it means for our churches to develop ministries that are effective both in building up the body and reaching the lost. The cost is £10. If you would like to attend please sign the list at the back of church.

The Diocese of Sheffield invites all 7-14 year olds to a Rainbow Day, Saturday 28th January 2-5 pm, at Dearne Valley Leisure Centre. Lots of activities including crafts, sport, workshops and swimming. Price £2.00. Further info from Jenny Lambourne (309114).

‘Annie get your Gun’ will be performed at the Rotherham Civic Theatre by the Wickersley Musical Theatre Company, 28th February – 3rd March.  Tickets £11.00 (concessions £10.00 Tuesday only) from Shirley Turner (540168). Sorry, no matinee performances.

Miscellaneous

The Real Easter Egg is the first and only Fairtrade chocolate Easter Egg to explain the Christian understanding of Easter on the pack whilst also supporting charity and development projects.  The Real Easter Egg may be available in the shops, but they can easily be purchased through St Alban’s. Each egg costs £4.50 and orders must be submitted by 30th January via the list at the back of church. N.B. we have to submit orders in batches of twelve. Please submit payment with your order to Yvonne Dugdale.

Leukaemia Research would be grateful for our used postage stamps. They can be placed in the envelope at the back of church or given to Shirley Turner. Thank you.

We need your help!  Our Cleaning Teams are in need of additional members. If you are willing to spend an hour every few weeks to help maintain St. Alban’s to a standard worthy of a place of worship, please have a word with Peter or Linda Hindson for further details and then add your name to the list at the back of church.
